16 Business Management terms

Hello, I'm Olivia and I'm currently starting my second session in Business management at Collège Montmorency. This Glossary will be for people who would like to learn briefly what comes with studying in my field. From the basic term of communication, marketing and management. Also, this glossary include 16 words I found by looking through my notes that I made for my exams in communication and management for the last semester.

accountancy
noun
Accountancy is the process of managing the income and expenses of a business.
Example: It is also predicted that left-handers will be more inclined to pursue careers in art design, sport and music and less likely to choose careers in medicine, accountancy and engineering.

active listening
'Active listening' means, as its name suggests, actively listening. That is fully concentrating on what is being said rather than just passively ‘hearing’ the message of the speaker.
Example: 'Facilitation, active listening, non directive questioning skills' are all crucial here (Rowlands, 1998: 26).

administrator
noun
A person responsible for running a business, organization, etc.
Example: Employment left college and worked as a clerical administrator at a local company in . walked "13 miles" per day to work and eventually left in to work as an accountant for Unichem.

break-even point
noun
In accounting, the breakeven point formula is determined by dividing the total fixed costs associated with production by the revenue per individual unit minus the variable costs per unit.
Example: A person making £40,000 would be at the break-even point and would neither pay taxes nor receive any benefits.

A business is defined as an organization or enterprising entity engaged in commercial, industrial, or professional activities.
Example: Before was born, Mrs was a hairdresser who ran her own business. 's father works for a large car manufacturer in the Midlands.

Business management definition is managing the coordination and organization of business activities.

communication

Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place, person or group to another.
Example: Classical physics is an approximation however, it is necessary to unambiguous communication as we are bounded by our experience as macro-level perceivers and quantum mechanics is not easily perceived on the macroscopic scale.

customer Approach
noun
Client-centric, also known as customer-centric, is an approach to doing business that focuses on creating a positive experience for the customer by maximizing service and/or product offerings and building relationships.
Example: It is by observing their customer approach that I have learned several lessons that I would like to share with you here.

The department of a business or organization that deals with the hiring, administration, and training of personnel.
Example: Dawson College promotes effective human resource management.

Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal.
Example: Moreover, the practice of gymnastic and other recreational activities in groups helps children to reinforce friendship relations amongst schoolmates and develop social qualities such as collaboration, cooperation, responsibility, self-control, self-discipline and leadership.

Marketing refers to activities a company undertakes to promote the buying or selling of a product or service.
Example: Functional Level Strategy Formulation marketing - The farm will need to advertise the newly renovated stables in suitable locations e.g. tack shop, feed merchant.

The action or process of interacting with others to exchange information and develop professional or social contacts.
Example: "Life did not take over the planet by combat, but rather by networking.".

The action or fact of persuading someone or of being persuaded to do or believe something.
Example: Instead he arranges a meeting so that they can be "told" of the change, whilst any element of persuasion, particularly important if individuals are to be enthusiastic about the change, is lacking.

Working for oneself as a freelancer or the owner of a business rather than for an employer.
Example: For example, John Browne claimed in 1631 that he could not make a living dressing hemp in Leicester, but after going to London he was profitably self\-employed and a freeman of the city and of the company of merchant tailors.
